EconomicsThe Office of Freight Management and Operations sponsors economic research on the benefits and costs of transportation improvements and the development of new and better methods for making investment decisions. Less costly freight transportation has contributed significantly to enhanced productivity and economic growth. However, market forces, environmental concerns, fuel prices, congestion, and other factors increase the cost of moving goods. The Office of Freight Management and Operations sponsors economic research on the impact of these forces. Research and analysis undertaken by FHWA are highlighted here.
