CALIFORNIA: San Francisco Parking Pricing and Regulation Study

The San Francisco Parking Pricing and Regulation Study (Study) will develop and evaluate parking-based approaches for the management of areawide traffic congestion in San Francisco. The Study will build on work conducted by the San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA) exploring road pricing and by the City to improve the management of parking in the City including through variable pricing measures. The Study will develop, analyze, and evaluate a set of parking scenarios that target the peak-period trips that congest San Francisco streets in the City each workday. The Study and its analyses will focus primarily on stocks of parking not owned by the City–i.e., parking other than on-street parking and City-owned lots and garages. The development of scenarios is anticipated to examine combinations of pricing and/or regulatory approaches affecting the various parking supplies that serve vehicle trips contributing to congestion in San Francisco. The Study will be conducted by the SFCTA and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) in collaboration with partner agencies.
