Best Practices for Road Weather Management Version 2.0
Title:
Forecasting Road-Surface Temperatures for Different Site Characteristics
Abstract:
In 1992/93 the Deutscher Wetterdienst (Germany) introduced a nationwide road weather information system. An energy balance model is used to forecast road conditions and road surface temperature over 27 hours. The energy balance model is able to account for five different site characteristics including unobstructed road section with regular traffic, unobstructed road section with little traffic, shaded road sections, bridge sections with urban influences and road sections with urban influences.
