3         Why Use SE?

The overall goals of systems engineering are to reduce risks, identify and correct defects as soon as possible, provide a common language between subject matter experts (SMEs) and system designers/technologists, and a system design that responds to needs and requirements instead of dictating needs and requirements

Other benefits of systems engineering include:

o   better system documentation

o   higher level of user engagement

o   system functionality that meets user needs

o   potential for shorter project cycles

o   systems that can evolve with a minimum of redesign and cost

o   higher level of system reuse

o   more predictable outcomes from projects
