Freight Facts and Figures 2009Figure 3-2. Share of Highway Vehicle Miles Traveled by Vehicle Type: 2007Despite doubling over the past two decades, truck traffic remains a relatively small share of highway traffic as a whole. In 2007, commercial trucks accounted for about 8 percent of highway vehicle miles traveled. Approximately two-thirds of commercial truck travel is by truck tractors hauling semitrailers and by other combinations, while the remaining one-third is by single-unit trucks with 6 or more tires.
