Figure 3-15. Tonnage of Trailer-on-Flatcar and Container-on-Flatcar Rail Intermodal Moves: 2006

The classic forms of rail intermodal transportation are trailer-on-flatcar and container-on-flatcar, and these are spread throughout the Untied States.  The largest concentrations are on routes between the Pacific Coast ports and Chicago and between Chicago and New York.
