Traffic Bottlenecks

Combating Bottlenecks

Virginia

First congestion relief shoulder lane on I-495 (VA beltway) inner loop will have colored asphalt to identify this lane.

Bottleneck Project: A $20M project will use the shoulder as a congestion relief lane for approximately 2 miles on the inner loop of the Capital Beltway roughly from the Tysons Corner area to the bridge crossing into MD. The completed project will have a colored pavement shoulder similar to what exists on I-66 in Virginia. Estimated completion is in early 2015.
