Seven transportation modeling approaches are placed on a continuum from simple to complex. Above the continuum are specific examples of transportation analysis tools that have been used to conduct a work zone analysis (these examples do not represent all of the product choices). Simpler tools include the categories of HCM and sketch-planning while the more complex tools include macro, meso, and microscopic simulation software. Below the continuum are the five trade-offs  including functionality, level of detail, development time, training and cost.
