Title:

The U.S. Federal Highway Administration Winter Road Maintenance Decision Support System (MDSS) Project: Overview and Results

Abstract:

The MDSS is a research project that is funded and administered by the FHWA Road Weather Management Program. A consortium of five national laboratories in coordination with state DOTs, academia and the private sector have participated in the development and implementation of the MDSS prototype. This paper describes the status of the MDSS project, results and lessons learned from the field demonstration efforts, and technology transfer process.
