Best Practices for Road Weather Management Version 2.0

Title:

Mitigating Highway Visibility Problems

Abstract:

WisDOT, FHWA, AAA Wisconsin and other organizations co-sponsored the premier National Highway Visibility Conference in May 2004 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Conference objectives included advancing the state of the practice related to roadway visibility detection and mitigation measures, with an emphasis on fog. The primary goal is to establish a framework for advancing visibility-oriented technology, state/federal programs and an on-going national dialogue. WisDOT's RD&T Program was prepared this Transportation Synthesis Report for distribution to conference attendees that would provide an overview of best practices and emerging technology for mitigating highway visibility problems.
