Fog Warning System Provides a Safety Net for Motorists

Abstract:

A fog detection and warning system on a 19-mile section of I-75 in southeastern Tennessee warns motorists of adverse conditions. The system uses fog detectors, ESS, radar vehicle detectors and a central computer for processing and automatic warning activation. Motorists are warned via DMS, VSL, swing gates, flashing beacons atop static signs and HAR.
