Title:

FHWA's Clarus Initiative: Concept of Operations and Associated Research

Abstract:

This paper discusses the Clarus Initiative, the Clarus Concept of Operations, and three research projects associated with Clarus. The research projects will investigate the inclusion of data from environmental sensors on vehicles, examine the use of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras for driver level visibility estimation, and test the feasibility of using low cost, low power radar to enhance observing in the lower atmosphere.
