Detection and Forecast for Waves Overtopping Seawalls

Abstract:

On National Highway No. 42 along the coast of Kii Peninsula, Japan; detection of waves overtopping seawalls (using CCTV cameras, wind and rainfall observations, wave and tidal observations and six-hour wave forecast from Japan Meteorological Agency) and implementation of traffic control (i.e., recommend "cautious driving," "coordinate traffic using single lane," and "road closure") based upon wave height, period and direction.
