Title:

Commercial Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Technologies Application to Transportation

Abstract:

The U.S. DOT initiated the Commercial Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Technology Application to Transportation program in 1999 in collaboration with NASA. The joint program utilizes the best available scientific and technology resources from both agencies for application to transportation. Through partnership with service providers, industries, transportation agencies and the academia, the program focuses on unique and cost-effective application of remote sensing and spatial information technologies for achieving transportation research goals. This brochure outlines significant results emerging from the first program years in the areas of evironmental assessment, integration and streamlining; transportation infrastructure management; traffic surveillance, monitoring and management; and safety hazards and disaster assessment.
