Title:

Avalanche Hazard Reduction for Transportation Corridors using Real-Time Detection and Alarms

Abstract:

Presents configurations of systems that detect and provide warning to motorists and highway maintainers of the onset of avalanching onto the roadway. Warnings include on-site traffic control signing and in-vehicle audio alarms for winter maintenance vehicles, and notify maintenance facilities and/or central agency dispatchers. Results and experiences are from winters of 1997/98, 1998/99 and 1999/2000.
