Description of Figure 8. Safe Positioning Diagram

Figure 8 describes the safe-positioning diagram. The figure shows a section of a roadway with a horizontal rectangular cross-hatched area at the top right of figure labeled "Incident Site." Below it, a double-headed vertical arrow labeled "Buffer Space" is shown between the lower edge of the incident site and the top edge of an overhead view looking down on the drawing of an emergency vehicle at the bottom of the figure. The emergency vehicle is shown to the right of a vertical broken white line and at an angle labeled 30 degrees, with the front of the vehicle pointing to the top left corner of the figure. This image of the vehicle is labeled as the "Fend-Off Position."

To the left of the vehicle's front bumper and above the broken white line, a small red square containing a white disc representing a traffic cone with a strobe light inserted into the top is shown.
