Description of Figure

This figure, featured again in Chapter 6, is a screen capture of the expert system developed by the Federal Highway Administration to provide guidance on the appropriate tool to be used on any particular project. The title bar of the system reads "Analysis Context: Planning, Design, or Operations/Construction." Below the title, the numbers 1-7 are displayed above seven topic boxes labeled: "Geographic Scope; Facility Type; Travel Mode; Management Strategy; Traveler Response; Performance Measure; Total Cost Effectiveness." Each topic box has one question below it. They read as follows: "What is your study area? Which facility types do you want to include? Which travel modes do you want to include? Which management strategies should be analyzed? Which traveler responses should be analyzed? What performance measures are needed? What operational characteristics are necessary?"
