The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in-person and online introductory courses on “Managing Travel for Planned Special Events” are being refreshed and will likely be available in late 2025 as an online course through FHWA’s National Highway Institute.

The course is based on FHWA’s Managing Travel for Planned Special Events handbook. It guided participants on how to apply key concepts in the handbook. This course offers practitioners a working knowledge of the techniques and strategies they may wish to use for the successful planning and operation of a variety of planned special events. Practitioners attending the course gain an understanding of the collective tasks facing multidisciplinary and interjurisdictional stakeholder groups charged with developing and implementing solutions to system-wide problems affecting travel during a special event.
