Regional ITS Architecture Process Workshop

Are you puzzled about how to develop your regional ITS architecture? Are you unsure how the new federal requirements relate to architecture development? If so, this might be your answer...

The U.S. DOT is pleased to offer transportation professionals an opportunity to participate in a 2-day workshop that will equip you with the tools to develop your own regional ITS architecture, by helping you to prepare a customized, draft Action Plan to guide you through the process in your region. "Champions" and key stakeholders from each region will participate, and each workshop will have two to four regions. This is not a training course, but rather an interactive workshop.

Workshop Objectives

Discussion in each process workshop will relate closely to the Regional ITS Architecture Guidance Document, and will address both technical and institutional issues that may be encountered during the development process. Specific objectives include understanding:

  • Specific parts of the Architecture and Standards Rule that apply to architecture development.
  • Steps needed to create your regional architecture, the champion's role, and the role of the core stakeholder group in each step.
  • Appropriate stakeholders and how to engage them - before, during, and after architecture development.
  • Resources and information necessary for architecture development.
  • How the National ITS Architecture and Turbo Architecture can support development of a regional architecture.
  • A general approach to developing inter-agency cooperation and agreements, which will be necessary for development and use of their regional architecture, as well as implement the projects contained in it.
  • How to maintain the regional architecture once it has been developed.

Who Will Benefit from Attending the Workshop?

  • Public sector professionals or "champions" responsible for leading the development of a regional architecture in their areas.
  • Private sector consultants under contract to the public sector for architecture development.
