Appendix J: Sample Rigid Pavement Sections

Appendix J is an overview of sample rigid pavement sections for Ohio, Mississippi, Utah and Arizona in their respective Geographic Location (#1-4). Each graph illustrates geographic location (#1 - #4) , state (Ohio, Mississippi, Utah and Arizona), three volumes (high, medium and low), PCC thickness, unstabilized aggregate base thickness, subgrade, joint spacing and dowel diameter.

Geographic Location #1 – Rigid Pavement: OHIO

For geographic location #1- Ohio, the high volume section PCC thickness is 12 inches, unstabilized base of A-1-a is 6 inches, subgrade is A-6, joint spacing is 15 feet and dowel diameter is 1.5 inches; the medium volume section PCC thickness is 10 inches, unstabilized base of A-1-a is 6 inches, subgrade is A-6, joint spacing is 15 feet and dowel diameter is 1.5 inches; the low volume section PCC thickness is 8 inches, unstabilized base of A-1-a is 6 inches, subgrade is A-6, joint spacing is 15 feet and dowel diameter is 1.25 inches.

 

Geographic Location #2 – Rigid Pavement: MISSISSIPPI

For geographic location #2- Mississippi, the high volume section PCC thickness is 12 inches, unstabilized base of A-1-a is 9 inches, subgrade is A-6, joint spacing is 20 feet and dowel diameter is 1.5 inches; the medium volume section PCC thickness is 10 inches, unstabilized base of A-1-a is 9 inches, subgrade is A-6, joint spacing is 20 feet and dowel diameter is 1.25 inches; the low volume section PCC thickness is 8 inches, unstabilized base of A-1-a is 9 inches, subgrade is A-6, joint spacing is 20 feet and dowel diameter is 1.0 inches.

 

Geographic Location #3 – Rigid Pavement: UTAH

For geographic location #3- Utah, the high volume section PCC thickness is 12 inches, unstabilized base of A-1-b is 6 inches, subgrade is A-2-4, joint spacing is 15 feet and dowel diameter is 1.5 inches; the medium volume section PCC thickness is 10 inches, unstabilized base of A-1-a is 6 inches, subgrade is A-2-4, joint spacing is 15 feet and dowel diameter is 1.5 inches; the low volume section PCC thickness is 8 inches, unstabilized base of A-1-b is 6 inches, subgrade is A-2-4, joint spacing is 15 feet and dowel diameter is 1.25 inches.

 

Geographic Location #4 – Rigid Pavement: ARIZONA

For geographic location #4- Arizona, the high volume section PCC thickness is 13 inches, unstabilized base of A-2-4 is 6.5 inches, subgrade is A-4, joint spacing is 15 feet and dowel diameter is 1.5 inches; the medium volume section PCC thickness is 10 inches, unstabilized base of A-2-4 is 6.5 inches, subgrade is A-4, joint spacing is 15 feet and dowel diameter is 1.5 inches; the low volume section PCC thickness is 8 inches, unstabilized base of A-2-4 is 6.5 inches, subgrade is A-4, joint spacing is 15 feet and dowel diameter is 1.25 inches.
