Figure 16. Vertical Tire Forces during the Lane Change Maneuver for the 12-ft Lane Change for Control Vehicle CD
Figure 16 plots the vertical forces on the tires for this same case. Markers in the figure indicate the moment where the maximum amount of load was transferred from the right side to the left side of the rear axle. Lateral load transfer ratio in this case is (12,683-2,049)/(12,683+2,049) or 0.72. The matrix is organized by vertical tire force in pounds (0 to 14,000 pounds) by time in seconds (0 to 16 seconds), and measures the vertical tire forces for control double axles #1 (left and right sides), #3 (left and right sides), and #5 (left and right sides). The vertical tire force for the control double to the target path is tight but does vary for axles # 1, 3 and 5 starting at 7500 pounds vertical tire force between 0 and 5 seconds. Starting at 5 seconds the axle types cover a range from 12,000 to 3,000 pounds at 7 to 9 seconds. Starting at 7 to 9 seconds the axle types range from 10,000 to 4,000 pounds at 10 to 11 seconds. Starting at 10 to 11 seconds the axle types range from 9,000 to 5,000 pounds at 12 seconds. Starting at 12 seconds the axle types gather about 7,500 pounds at 15 seconds.
