The USDOT Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology (RITA) Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) published the 2016 North American Freight Numbers this week. Four of the major transportation modes carried less U.S. freight in 2016 than in 2015: truck, pipeline, vessel, and air. Rail increased slightly, rising 0.2% during the same period.
