Description The new year could bring significant change to the trucking industry if five new regulations are fully implemented. Electronic logging devices (ELD) are required to be used by December 16 for any truck driver required to track their Hours of Service (HOS). Certain portions of the HOS rules that were suspended are under department review now to determine if the suspension will be permanent. FMCSA announced their implementation of their Unified Registration System (URS) has been delayed. The new system will identify all carriers, brokers, and freight forwarders by a DOT number instead of an MC, FF, or MX numbers. Other pending regulations include requiring speed limiters on vehicles over 26,000 pounds, and new overtime pay rules.
