Miles of Infrastructure by Transportation Mode: 1980-2007Road infrastructure increased slowly over the past 27 years despite a large increase in the volume of traffic. Between 1980 and 2007, route miles of public roads increased by about 5 percent compared with a 98 percent increase in vehicle miles traveled.
