A bar chart showing GDP per capita and productivity growth in percent per year for four time periods: 1949 through 1973; 1974 through 1979; 1980 through 1995; and 1996 through 1999. For the 1949 through 1973 period GDP per capita grew approximately 2.5 percent per year and productivity grew approximately 2.4 percent per year. For 1974 through 1979 GDP per capita grew approximately 1.1 percent per year and productivity grew approximately 0.5 percent per year. For 1980 through 1995 GDP per capita grew at approximately 1.6 percent per year and productivity grew approximately at 1.3 percent per year. For 1996 through 1999 GDP per capita grew at approximately 2.9 percent per year and productivity grew approximately at 2.4 percent per year.
