Revision History

The Freeway Management and Operations Handbook was developed in September 2003, and has since been updated to reflect current state of the practice. Updates to this handbook were coordinated by the Freeway Operations Committee Task Force.

The date of each chapter is listed in the footer of each page of the Handbook (e.g., September 2003). This will help to ensure that you have the most recent Handbook as individual chapters are updated. The most recent date of each chapter can be summarized as follows:

Chapter 1 and Front Material Update:

  • Front Cover - Added the words (Updated June 2006) to the date at the bottom of the page.
  • Form 1700, Box #5 - Added the words "(see Revision History page for chapter updates)"
  • Added a page after the Foreword and before the Table of Contents called "Revision History". 
  • Added the words "Chapter 1 was revised in June 2006. For more information on the extent of revisions, see the Revision History Table at the beginning of this handbook." At the beginning of Chapter 1. 
  • Chapter 1 - Revised the date in the footer to June 2006.
  • Updated Section 1.5.4.4.
  • Updated the definition of Ramp Management in Section 1.7 item #7 to be consistent with the definition provided in the Ramp Management Handbook.

Chapter 2 Update:

  • Added the words "Chapter 2 was revised in June 2006. For more information on the extent of revisions, see the Revision History Table at the beginning of this handbook." At the beginning of Chapter 2.
  • Chapter 2 - Revised the date in the footer to June 2006.
  • Figure 2.1/Section 2.3 - Replaced Figure with an updated version and updated text to reflect newly inserted figure. Figure 2.1 was updated to make it more complete and understandable per reviewers' suggestion.
  • Section 2.4.2/Technical Integration - Expanded this section to include more information on standards (types/purpose, etc.).
  • Section 2.3 - Decision Making: Slight rewording and edits to opening paragraph to reflect changes to organization and Figure 2.1.
