Description of Figure 8-3: Accident Data on New Jersey TurnpikeThis graph shows New Jersey Turnpike Accidents per 100 Million Vehicle-Miles on the vertical axis, ranging from 0.0 to 100.0 accidents. Year is shown on the horizontal axis, ranging from 1994 to 1998. Three plots are shown: Outer Roadway (cars and trucks), Inner Roadway (cars only), and Non Dual-Dual Roadway (sections of the turnpike where the configuration does not exist). The accident rates for the outer and inner roadways are similar (i.e., between 50 to 60 accidents per 100 million vehicle-miles), and lower than the accident rates for the sections where commercial traffic is not separated (i.e., approximately 80 accidents per 100 million vehicle-miles). |
