Brief Description

Work Zone Monitoring

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

Waze®
HERE®

The agency uses crowdsourced data within work zones to evaluate the effectiveness of traffic control plans (e.g., how variable speed limits affect crashes). By blending crowdsourced and traditional data, KYTC can create detailed reporting both for its own use and for sharing via its online traveler information system.

Detour Management

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey

Waze

The agency pushes work zone information to Waze and other platforms to alert travelers so they do not attempt unsafe movements and to reduce traffic in areas of work zones.

Detour Management

Indiana Department of Transportation (DO)T

INRIX®

Using INRIX data, the agency can analyze the best available detour routes to ensure optimal traffic flow. One such incident involved a monthlong, 37-mile road closure along I–65, during which a 62-mile detour route was identified, selected, and monitored using INRIX data.
