Best Practices for Road Weather Management Version 2.0

Title:

The Use of Road Weather Information System for Traffic Control on E18 between Pyhtaa and Hamina, Finland

Abstract:

The Finnish National Road Administration has used road transport telematics on a weather-controlled road to reduce problems for traffic caused by bad weather and road conditions. The weather-controlled road between Pyhtaa and Hamina is a 25 kilometers long road section of the European road E18 on the southern coast of Finland. On this road, drivers are informed about varying weather and road conditions in real time by using automatic road weather monitoring stations and variable message signs.
