Title:

The Use of a Site Specific Forecast Model in Anti-icing Operations

Abstract:

It is quite a challenge for meteorologists to predict the location and timing of road ice. Computer models of the atmosphere typically have a resolution of around 40 miles between successive prediction points (grid points), and the formation of road ice is often governed by highly localized factors. This paper examines the theory of site-specific models, and discusses the results of a trial which took place in Montana from January through April 1999.
