It will help snowfighters give the public the most effective snow and ice control program possible and, therefore, safe winter roads at the least overall cost. The "Sensible Salting" methods contained in this manual are the cornerstone of an effective winter maintenance program. It can only result in benefits to the snowfighter and the public that far exceed any detrimental effects on the environment.
