Title:

Surface Transportation and Severe Local Storms

Abstract:

This article is based on findings in the White Paper "Weather Information for Surface Transportation" by the FHWA Weather Team. The overall Weather Team program and initial White Paper findings were presented at a previous AMS conference. This article elaborates on the significance of severe local storms to decision making in surface transportaion, via their impacts and the kinds of information needed to achieve better transportation outcomes. The problem of decision support regarding severe storms lies in fusion of observational and small scale-meso predictive information.
