Title:

Supporting Nevada Department of Transportation Operations with Road Weather Information Systems

Abstract:

This paper describes the three principle climatic regions in Nevada and the development of winter maintenance strategies for District II. The paper also discusses Nevada's RWIS and it's use for motorist warning systems and pavement temperature forecasting. Nevada currently has three systems that provide for the detection and notification of hazardous conditions. In each case, the RWIS provides the monitoring and activates devices that warn motorists of the hazard.
