Rural ITS Applications for Snow Maintenance and Winter Hazard Mitigation

Abstract:

This paper presents emerging ITS concepts and products for winter maintenance safety developed from the Ideas Deserving Exploratory Analysis (IDEA) program managed by Transportation Research Board. It includes fleet management, an avalanche detection and gateway management system, a fiber-optic-based visibility information system, and road condition sensor system concepts/products.
