Title:

Research Needs in Weather Information for Surface Transportation: The Perspective of the User Community

Abstract:

There is a critical need to develop a far-reaching and innovative research program in the area of weather information for surface transportation. Components of this research program include determining what sorts of information are most critically needed, how to obtain and develop such information and how to deliver such information in such a way as to enhance rather than degrade the performance of those seeking the information. This paper reviews these components and present scope and justification for the various aspects of the proposed research program.
