Title:

Pavement Monitoring and Interface System to Implement Traffic Signal Timing Plan Changes for Winter Driving: Phase 1

Abstract:

During snow packed or icy road conditions the progression time between signals is not adjusted for the lower friction factor associated with slippery roads and slower driving conditions. With the goal of improving traffic flow and providing for safet travel through signalized intersections during winter weather conditions, the Wyoming DOT embarked on a three-phased research project to potentially integrate the capabilities of the Deparment's RWIS with traffic signal operation. This report documents the findings of Phase 1.
