Title:

Mobile Fog Disperson with Liquid Carbon Dioxide

Abstract:

This research included evaluation of fog dispersion attempts with liquid carbon dioxide from stationary ground units that proved to be limited in their effectiveness and progressed to ground-based mobile units that were found to be effective for removal of fog over the target areas. A procedure for dispersion of fog in highway trouble spots was developed as a guide to maintenance forces. Equipment descriptions and suggestions for design are included. Safety precautions for operating in limited visibility and handling liquid carbon dioxide are included. Dispersion was found to be successful when seeding was conducted at temperatures below zero degrees celsius and when sufficiently dense fog was present. Recommendations for expanded implementation efforts are given to increase benefits from the development of this technology.
