Title:

Luffts Black Ice Forecast System (GMA)

Abstract:

There is a magic triangle of winter maintenance: snow plows and spreaders (machines and trucks), deicing material (salt, etc.), and warning systems (road weather information systems). This paper is aimed at giving an example of state-of-the-are road weather information systems. The system provides all necessary information for precautionary or curative type of operation. Independent on type of icing (ice forecast, frost, ice, packed snow) and on recommended material (liquid, pre-wetted, or sand/grit).
