Title:

A Survey of Anti-icing Practice in Virginia

Abstract:

This study documents the Virginia Department of Transportation's anti-icing practice so that development of a coordinated statewide plan for implementing anti-icing technology can be considered. The researcher surveyed VDOT managers to determine the use of anti-icing technology. This report uses anecdotal survey information to assess the effectiveness of various anti-icing techniques used within VDOT. The report concludes that where anti-icing practice has been implemented on a widespread basis, the results validate the findings of the FHWA Study TE 28 and the anti-icing experiences of other states.
