Title:

Development of Winter-Road-Management Guidance System Based on Road Icing Prediction with Optical Sensor on Meihan National Highway

Abstract:

The Nara National Highway Work Office is developing a system for predicting road icing in support of measures for dealing with icing and excessive snow, the purpose being that of realizing high-level, efficient winter road maintenance on the Meihan National Highway. A prototype system has been built and tested over a two-year period. It has been ound to be effective in raising the level of winter road managment through higher efficiency of spreading anti-icing materials and decision support.
