The availability and location of parking can have a strong influence on how employees commute to work. Employees may look for alternatives to driving their car if parking is limited or in an inconvenient location. On the other hand, providing preferred parking facilities for carpool and vanpool vehicles can be an incentive for employees to choose one of these commute options.
Providing carpools and vanpools preferred parking, similar to executive parking or employee of the month parking, creates an incentive to not drive alone. If there is a parking shortage at your worksite, offering carpools and vanpool priority parking privileges over those who drive alone will also motivate employees to share a ride to work.
