Low water levels on the Mississippi River are causing supply chain issues as barge companies are reducing both the number of barges on the river as well as the weight carried by each barge to ensure that the barges do not run aground. This decrease of river traffic is raising the cost of transportation to farmers and manufacturers along the Mississippi River by forcing them to consider moving their goods by truck or train. |
