Title:

Weather Information for Roadway Transportation: Preliminary Data Gap Analysis

Abstract:

During the April 2002 meeting of the OFCM Committee on Integrated Observing Systems (CIOS), a task was initiated to conduct a preliminary data gap analysis identifying deficiencies in weather information services and products for roadway operators, maintainers, and users. This paper examines road weather data needs, in light of the operational requirements of roadway transportation managers, to identify weather data gaps or deficiencies. The paper characterizes road weather data needs for roadway transportation managers, describes available road weather data sources, and identifies road weather data gaps related to spatial and temporal resolution, data quality, data sharing, and non-technical issues.
