Weather Information for Road Managers

Abstract:

This article describes weather impacts on road safety, mobility and productivity; observing systems used by transportation agencies; the benefits of road weather information; and several road weather management strategies. FHWA efforts related to the Clarus Initiative, the Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII) Initiative, and the Maintenance Decision Support System (MDSS) prototype are also described.
