Long Description of Slide 12 Image: MDSS: Route Specific Forecasts

This image shows a screenshot of MDSS (Maintenance Decision Support Tool), a software developed by FHWA to help transportation agencies with their winter maintenance operations including application of anti-icing and deicing chemicals. MDSS uses road surface and atmospheric weather data from various sources to determine the current condition of the road and forecast its future conditions with or without maintenance treatments. The software displays road weather information and treatment recommendations on a map so the user can visually evaluate the impacts of alternative winter maintenance strategies.
