  • Cargo Security and Efficiency Operational Tests - Since before the 9/11/2001 attacks, FHWA has been demonstrating the value of ITS in improving security and efficiency of freight movement. These tests demonstrated various applications.
  • Planned Special Events Traffic Management - Planned Special Events (PSE) have many characteristics in common with incidents, particularly as the focus on security at PSE has increased. This link provides access to materials FHWA has developed, including a detailed handbook on managing travel for PSE published in 2005.
  • Traffic Incident Management - Traffic incidents are often simply smaller versions of the incidents that require emergency transportation operations, and thus have many common characteristics. Case studies have proven that the institutional relationships built in traffic incident management (TIM) are critical when larger incidents occur. This link provides access to over a decade of work by FHWA in TIM.
