Guidance on Alternate Route Plans

Building on NCHRP Synthesis 279 and the existing chapters in the Freeway Management and Traffic Incident Management Handbooks, the Federal Highway Administration is developing a technical report on how states can identify candidate alternate routes and develop alternate route plans. This technical reference will serve as a guidance and training tool for transportation engineers, law enforcement personnel, and other stakeholders involved in the development of alternate route plans. In developing this document, the writing team will examine existing practices used to select alternate routes and to develop alternate route plans in addition to lessons learned as identified by practitioners.

The writing team welcomes your involvement in the project! Below is a file that can be downloaded for your organization to contribute information and resources for possible use and credit in the technical reference.

To get involved, obtain one of the following information request forms designed for ease of use (DOC 289KB).
