How do I get an Architecture Process Seminar for my region?

Contact your FHWA Division office or FTA Region office ITS Specialist and request the Seminar.

**Preparations should begin about 45 days before the seminar.

Seminars are FREE to all public sector participants and their private sector consultants under contract for architecture development.

Participants are expected to be familiar with local ITS projects, their region’s planning processes, and the National ITS Architecture.

The U.S. DOT is pleased to offer transportation professionals an opportunity to participate in a 1-day seminar that will equip you with the information you need to develop your own regional ITS architecture. Participants will include “ITS Champions” and key stakeholders from a region. This is not a training course, but rather an interactive seminar.

Seminar Objectives

The seminar will focus on the six-step process described in the Regional ITS Architecture Guidance Document for developing, using and maintaining a regional ITS architecture. The seminar will address both technical and institutional issues that may be encountered during the development process. Specific objectives include understanding:

  • The parts of the Architecture and Standards Rule that apply to regional ITS architecture development, use and maintenance.
  • The role of the ITS Champion, core stakeholders, and other regional stakeholders.
  • Resources and information necessary for regional ITS architecture development.
  • How the National ITS Architecture and Turbo Architecture software can support development of a regional ITS architecture.
  • A general approach to developing inter-agency cooperation and agreements, which will be necessary for development and use of a regional ITS architecture, as well as implementing the projects contained in it.
  • How to maintain the regional ITS architecture once it has been developed.

Who Will Benefit from Attending the Seminar?

  • Public sector professionals or “champions” responsible for leading the development of a regional ITS architecture in their areas.
  • Private sector consultants under contract to the public sector for architecture development.
