ITS Incident Management Standards
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 1512 set of standards deals with message sets for incident management. It supports the operational functions of basic incident information exchange, situational awareness, asset management, plan dissemination, and warning. The 1512 standards facilitate solving interoperability problems between transportation management systems and public safety communications systems, providing a common language specification that can be used by dissimilar systems to exchange critical items of information in real-time or near real-time.
The Public Safety message set standard IEEE 1512.2 is nearing completion and will be balloted in 2004. The base standard IEEE 1512-2000 will be revised on 2004 to incorporate changes necessitated by the development of the IEEE 1512 companion volumes and changes in the Traffic Management Data Dictionary.
