North American oil companies are seeing dramatic increases in the amount of oil shipped by rail. Shipments of crude-by-rail in the United States have increased to an estimated 340,000 barrels per day in 2012 from approximately 11,000 barrels per day in 2007. Crude oil shipments are now the fastest growing product for many Canadian and United States Class 1 railroad due to oil production outpacing pipeline capacity. |
